Meet The Bear brings Amos 5 into sharp prophetic focus. Using the famous image of fleeing a lion only to meet a bear, the song destroys the illusion that divine judgment is automatically good news for an unfaithful people. It ties the Day of YHWH to justice at the gate, care for the poor, and the urgent call to seek YHWH and live. At the same time, the song can also hold Amos 7 in the background, because it does not present judgment as random chaos but as measured, deserved, and still preceded by warning. The result is a song of urgency: there is still time to turn, but false refuge will not hold.
